I am writing again for the first time in more than a month and a half. I have changed the domain name of the website from www.enpleinairpainters.com to www.anthony-lombardi.com. The first reason for this change is because I think the website is personalised and not general. Enpleinairpainters implies a group (at least two members given the plural form) and I have not succeeded in forming a group of painters. Maybe there are just not enough people interested. Maybe I didn’t offer anything that others were interested in. Never mind, I’ve changed the name and it took a lot of work.

One reason for the work was the translation.

I decided that it was important to write my articles in Italian as well as English (my native language) because I live in Rome and share the Italian language with most of my friends and family here.

The work on the website has not kept me from painting however. I have completed four large paintings and one still-life. I don’t remember the exact order but I think the order was like this:

1.) Largo Corrado Ricci Sept 16
2.) Saint Francis a Ripa Sept 23
3.) Aventino Oct 7
4.) Largo Magnanapoli Oct 14

The still-life was done in the first part of October.

I wrote a short memoir of each session which you can see in the sessions part.

The outdoor oil painting was not the only activity done in this period. I have done a series of ink paintings and watercolours as well. I am using these alternative mediums to explore the possibilities of my expression.

At the moment, I find myself curiously attracted to the details of what I am looking at, as opposed to the current production of oil paintings. To me, these works are still anchored in an illustrative mode. Unlike the oil paintings where my confidence lets me paint in a freer way, these studies are an attempt to ‘master’ the technique and gain confidence in the use of new materials.
