Flaminia Quarter Rome<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

This writing is an attempt to analyse the essay by Maurice Merleau-Ponty titled \u2018Eye and Mind\u2019 and direct some of the ideas towards an understanding of my own art.<\/p>\n

My first consideration deals with the current scientific mindset which tends to objectify and reduce the experience of the world to a process of collection and analysis of data. This condition generates a \u2018operationality\u2019 which separates the inner self from the outside world creating a distinct relationship between the two realms.<\/p>\n

In separating the inner self from the outside world, the subject attempts to ignore that the confines of the body extend into this outer world and vice versa. In reality, when I look at nature, I see myself in it as well. I see parts of my body which are attached and belong to the same world that I observe. When I paint, I use my hands which are as visible to my eyes as the landscape or a rose that I am painting. My body is both part of the vision which I observe and the maker of the vision which I am creating.<\/p>\n

My body helps transform the \u2018outer\u2019 world into a painting by being \u2018in\u2019 it. The world. Not separate.
