This morning, I woke up at five in order to check out a site that I had found on google maps. However, when I arrived on the spot, I noticed that there were state police cars all over the place. The square which I had decided upon was part of the Ministry of Defense.

I didn’t think that the police would appreciate my setting up of the painting easel and so I wandered a bit further to another nearby square.

Piazza delle Muse has been closed to reconstruction for some time creating a parking structure under the square. It is one of the high hills in an area of residential suburbs about a couple of kilometres from the Aurelian wall. The hill curves around the Tibur river valley but the view from the square takes in only the northern part of the river. I was happy to be able to see the view because the construction has almost been finished.

In any case, I started painting at about 5.45 after carefully surveying the possible positions. I decided on a long view of the valley with the river and a bridge. The canvas was small but I worked for about 2 hours.

In the meantime, the sun had come out and many people were filling the nearby bar. Suddenly, my attention no longer on painting, I realized that I hadn’t eaten or had a coffee and felt a little faint.
